What is Taurodontism of teeth?

Taurodontism is a developmental disturbance of a tooth in which body is enlarged at the expense of the roots. An enlarged pulp chamber, apical displacement of the pulpal floor and lack of constriction at the cementoenamel junction are the characteristic features.

What causes Taurodontism?

Taurodontism is a disorder of tooth development and occurs most commonly in permanent molar teeth. It refers to an elongation of the pulp chamber of the tooth, which can cause the tooth to lie deep in the jaw (aveolar process). At this time the cause of taurodontism is unknown.
